1997 GMC Sierra front brakes

I'm putting new brakes on my 97 Sierra, and all was going
well until I tried to get the caliper back on. Ive got the
Piston back as far as I can but there's still about a 1/8 in
left sticking out. The bushings that the screws go through
to secure the whole assembly are preventing me from
sliding back on. Do I need to find a way to get that last 1/8
in. Pushed back in or is there something I'm missing

The guide pins are sticking out to far they have to be even with caliper before it can go back on. Also best to remove guide pins and put some brake grease on them. To remove guide pins remove the rubber cap that covers them then pull out with pliers. After putting grease on them reinstall until even with coming out of caliper then put rubber caps back on.

The bushings that you mentioned are the guide pins they can be removed as I mentioned. You can also tap it back even with a hammer.
