my 1997 4by4 starts good idles ok but when u put it in gear u have to feather gas  no power pedle to move u step on it it chokes out do u think fuel filter iv cleaned cat with liquor thinner its better but still bad

You could change the fuel filter. I would check fuel pressure first.
