It will be one of the following, check the bulbs for proper number and the filaments are good, ch ck the sockets to make sure the bulbs fit correctly and finally the ground wires going to the sockets can be disconnected or broken or bad, I hope this helps, take care.

GuruBN15V, I have a 91 Scotsdale with the same problem. Previous owner had trailer wired in at some point so bunch of splices remain. Started with bad ground on rear frame. Next was driver side circuit board. Then was to replace headlight switch, Then was a bulb lead that melted into lamp base housing only required to bend back out towards the contact in fixture. Then the ground again, but now when I turn on headlights the rears get dim. But when I put it in gear the rears go out completely.
