What gear should I drive my 05 gmc envoy in when towing a trailer

Asked by jmc51 Dec 17, 2014 at 08:31 AM about the 2005 GMC Envoy XUV 4 Dr SLT SUV

Question type: General

Just want to know what gear I should use to tow a trailer with my 05 envoy xuv. I don't have any mechanical problems. I just want the answer to that question. I don't feel I need to pay for the answer to this question since it is not a mechanical problem

It all depends on how heavy your trailer is and how flat or hilly the roads you are going to be traveling on. If it's under 1500 lbs. you should be fine in overdrive. If its more than 1500 make sure you have a trailer brake and drop it into drive or 3 when coming up on big hills.

You PAY for answers?! Look, your question is so general it falls into the category of common sense- how heavy is the trailer and it's load? What is the air temperature, is it really hot when you plan doing this? Do you live in a hilly or mountainous area? How many miles on your truck? what is the load rating? Let's just say that the more extreme the conditions, the more stress will be put on your machinery. And if your are regularly towing a big load, an engine oil cooler and a tranny oil cooler is a necessity-
