why would a cam seal go on a 2003 envoy with only 118000 kms on it.. looking to but this one at a used car lot but the cam seal is gone on it . they are willing to repair but this concerns me as to why this would happen.,

Not unusual for any car. The cam seal is just an oil seal, and can go at any time really. May have sat around a lot and developed a depression in it which was aggravated by use.
