Engine stalls when not pressing gas

Asked by Karel01 Jun 16, 2015 at 05:51 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM Van 1500 Cargo RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our 98 dodge ram engine dies very often when we drive slow and stop pressing the gas
(like when approaching red lights). Mechanics can't find a solution even when I suggest
others solutions for similar problems that people had on this forum. Battery is allright, idle
air control is allright, throtlle seems to be fine, transmission fluid level is good and
computer gives no errors. Please give some advice as we're travelling and this is an
unsafe issue! Thanks

Try cleaning throttle body with throttle body cleaner and add a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to gas tank also replace fuel filter if not done so in a while. Check air filter. When cleaning throttle body use a old tooth brush while holding open choke. Pay close attention and clean good were choke seats to throttle body when closed.

my 94 did that, my mechanic pulled and manually cleaned the fuel injector, it was full of gunk including slots meant to let air in and so it choked out when slowing or stopping
