What could cause a 97' dodge ram 3500 cargo van lose mph. Husband was driving on highway when van suddenly dropped speed down to 10 to 5 mph and wouldn't go any faster...?

Lost speed while driving down highway . gas pedal
completely pushed down but van wouldn't go any
faster then 5 to 10 mph. No noise or anything else
warning us b4 van lost speed...
