Radio and clock display stopped working

Asked by kelson Mar 30, 2010 at 09:16 PM about the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Radio and clock display suddenly stopped working. Checked under-the-hood fuse panel, and all okay there. Is there any other in-line fuse that I need to replace, perhaps?

I HAVE SOLVED THE SHORTING OUT PROBLEM OF THE RADIO SHORTING OUT, FLASHING, RESETTING, OR JUST PLAIN NOT WORKING!!! It is in the radio, behind the buttons. After six months of listening fools tell me to connect and disconnect, change fuses, etc, and pulling my hair, i finally removed the radio. using a star set of drivers i removed the front panel of the radio, and then the green board on the back of that panel, looking for dirt or bad connections. i found two flat, square, gold contact points on the green panel. there were tow very thin metal contacts on the button board that corresponded to these contact points. i noticed the metal was bent very far down, so i very gently placed a tiny screwdriver behind the contacts and gently bent them forward, where they would make a better contact with the little squares. i screwed the radio back together, re-installed it, and BAM. worked like a champ. lights, buttons, switches, the works. i'm going to go take a ride now and listen to my radio -- on ALL the stations.

Feb 2017, 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT radio has no power. The radio and all its functions simply stopped working with no power to the unit. All fuses under the hood were checked and changed, was no help. I pulled the radio, disconnected the wire harness and inspected the back of the radio for any damage. No damage visible. On a whim I simply re connected the wire harness, turned on the ignition as the clock and radio came alive. It seemed it needed a reset. All is working fine, for the moment. That 20 minute chore saved me about $300 for a newly installed unit.

Some say a fuse blew out or reset IOD, depending on the year and model of the vehicle, some have only fuses, some have IOD's both should be checked, but having to take the stereo apart, thats just to much work.

might be easier to replace it with an aftermarket bluetooth stereo.

That's what I'm going to do with my 08 caravan that keeps cutting power in and out. I love the bluetooth pioneer stereo in my truck, it automatically links to my iphone 6 and starts playing from where i left off last on the music player as soon as I turn the ignition on.

Omg! Works like charm. My Radio/DVD system blanked out and wouldn't come on after using a booster cable on my battery when it wouldn't start, I must have left the system on. After about 3 days of trying I came across this thread, then referred to the car user manual for location of the IOD fuse ; which is a 60amp fuse in the 2008 Dodge caravan; l took it off almost "3/4 way" as it wont come off entirely; and Wow!!! My Radio/Dvd system roared back to life. Many thanks again for saving me hundreds of dollars & torture of enduring half barked technical fiddling with the system... Cheers

Hello I'm having troubles with my 2013 Dodge Grand caravan car stereo... It seems to be a problem when I am trying to listen to music it cuts in and out when I play my music from an auxiliary cord through my phone or play a CD. When I turn it on to the radio stations no sound of music is playing just static... please help me out with the solution to my problem. Thanks

Thank you very much. I left the key in ignition and forgot to pull it out. The next day, battery is dead. I recharged the battery but the radio screen is blacked out. After reading this thread, I pulled the IOD fuse up (J13 in my 2014 grand caravan), waited for 30sec, push it down, restart the vehicle, and everything works again. Thank you very much, you guys are very helpful.

I found that you can eliminate the IOD fuse. Just take the radio fuse out, disconnect the positive side battery cable for 30 seconds then reconnect it and put the fuse back in. Worked great for me!

Glad I found this thread. Had the same problem, thought it was M10 or M13, but I checked the IOD fuse (J13, as above) and it worked. It's really locked into the panel, but I pulled it up 3/4 and reinserted and now everything is working again. Thanks!!!

Working now. I killed my battery like an idiot and jumped it with a high powered jumper battery. Radio wouldn't turn on for days. I tried resetting fuses and no dice. I then unscrewed four Phillips head screws and took out the radio. I started up accessory for about twenty minutes and waited. THEN I UNPLUGGED THE LARGEST PLUG AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN. It started up! Thank you to the ones before me that suggested this.

I tried the IOD fuse and nothing until I finally decided to take apart my stereo Which only took about 10 min to do so and disconnected everything checked for any issues(didn’t see any) and reconnected everything back on I half turned my ignition on and worked!! After about 3 months of driving with no radio

For reals! I tried taking out the IOD fuse without much hope but thinking what's the harm in trying. It worked! In fact, even my stations were saved. 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Thanks for all your comments it helped point me in the right direction, 2012 Grand Caravan with a gremlin in AM/FM stations, everything else’s works fine. Narrowed it down to the circuit board, something on the board was touching the metal frame. Inserted a rubber shim and now working, we will see how long.

Grand Caravan 2017 - radio/backup camera screen dead after battery died. I couldn't get the IOD fuse out but removed the M12 fuse and reinserted it. That did the trick. I had run the battery dead uploading music from a USB to the hard drive and forgetting about it. Jump started the car and the radio/backup camera screen wouldn't function. Removing the M12 (Amplifier/Radio) (30amp green) fuse and reinserting it fixed the issue. The Fuse box has a fuse removal/insertion tool in it.
