Car won't start

My van makes a single click noise when I try to
start it. Sometimes it cranks the first time,
sometimes it takes multiple tries. I want to try
everything possible before I take it in

In addition to the above...check for loose or corroded battery and starter connections. These connections need to be clean and tight.
