My 2005 PT Cruiser was driving fine, then I came to a stop light and it wouldn't

You might have a dirty Fuel filter The job of the fuel filter is to keep debris out of the gasoline in a car. When a fuel filter becomes dirty or clogged with debris, the flow of gasoline through the car is impeded, and the fuel pump ends up working harder. Hesitations in the engine are a direct result of the gasoline flow being impeded.

I will give that a try. It also happened when it was pouring rain and I thought maybe something got wet.

The check engine light is on, so you can scan for the codes, that will help you to determine what your issue is. Your local auto parts store can do this for free.
