is the cam the same on the 2002 and 2006 pt cruiser 2.4

Asked by Glenn Dec 08, 2014 at 03:26 PM about the 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

had a burnt valve and head damage. found a pt cruiser 2006 with IDENTICAL head (AFAIK) (with exception of egr bore hole, which I bored out)
Installed it on engine. everything is perfect. all hooked up, no spark at all.
checked every electrical connection, perfect. (saw an article on line that if you disconnect the cam sensor, the car will start, tried it, it started - with cam sensor error of course)
The measured voltages at the cam sensor are (plug side) are in range: 4.99 Volts(sig), .4 Volts(gnd) and 8 volts (Pwr)
If I start the car / with cam sensor connected but not attached to engine, it will start.
If I then move the sensor near the cam magnet, the engine stalls.
Does the computer have a problem? Does it need to be reflashed?
Are the cam magnets different? are the sensors different?

The cams are different. Check the Dowell pin holes in camshaft. With cam lob at 12 o clock the holes should be at 2o'clock and 7 o'clock. The wrong cam is at 10 o'clock and 5 o'clock. Cam sencer will not work. There is a chart on www.kilogram check out this chart. joelhooson1@gmail.com. your welcome.

That's the end of the cam where the cam sencer mounts. Holes drilled into cam end.
