pt cruiser sometimes does not start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My parents and i have lost hope as to the problem of my car. I own a 2001 pt
cruiser with 75,000 miles on it. So let me explain my problem so you can get
an image of it. All my problems started when my father changed the sparke
plugs which he's educated on how to change them. my car drove fine for
about 3 weeks then my car slowly, everyday took longer each time to crank
and turnover i guess you would say. Then it just completely stopped. It would
crank but it wouldn't start. So my parents and i did some research and came
to the conclusion that it was the ignition coil. after changing that plus the
sparke plugs again and charging my battery my car started right up, better
than ever. 3 weeks later, after owning and driving my car everyday for about 3
months, i got those signs again. as you would've guessed it my car didn't start
right before i had to go to work. so it sat for about a week, everyday we tried to
start it and jump my car, still didn't turn over but was cranking, so my father
looked at it after a week. We hooked up the voltmeter to the battery and it
started right up. So as you would guess we started to drive it lightly though.
Just around town. i went to babysit and it didn't start when i was about to
leave. so we leave it for a day and we go back and try to start it and it started
right up. Now my mother in the beginning stepped on the gas the first time it
didn't start and flooded the spark plugs. so we never changed them because
the gas has dried up since then. We were told by our mechanic not to flood it,
so we never pursued that since the first time. there were 2 more occurrences
since the last time i said it didn't start that was basically similar to it not
starting then a day later starting. It is not the fuel pump because it turns on.
Any advice or conclusions as what it could be?
