Problem: fuel return-line leak.

My mom has an old 1991 Chrysler New Yorker Salon (3.3 liter V6) with low miles but not worth putting much money into. Replacement parts seem unavailable, but the fuel return-line is leaking from a knob-shaped attachment (about an inch in diameter) that appears to have a screen. Maybe its an overflow valve? Anyway, I need a cheap solution. Can the return-line be crimped shut without causing a major problem? Can a custom-made line be used without the knob-shaped attachment? And what is that things? Thanks for any help.

A friend of mine located the part on MoparPartsOverstock.com, which still makes parts that Chrysler doesn't. Apparently, this car used an unusual fuel system design, because the failed part is a pulsation damper in the return fuel line from the pressure regulator. Normally, the pulsation damper is located on the other side of the fuel rail from the pressure regulator, and not in the return line. As I say, it must be a different sort of design.
