Prius Battery Drains

Asked by Ricky1194 Jan 06, 2015 at 09:41 AM about the 2007 Toyota Prius FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Brand new Yellow Top Optima.  2nd one.  The battery is drained.  Charged it up and was
able to get it started.  Also I hear a grinding noise behind the right front wheel.  Is there an
alternator?

Prius Problems- get used to it- I have no idea about electrical problems in these electronic nightmares- but SOMETHING must charge the battery- and you SHOULD have a really good mechanic who can deal with this machine-

There is a motor/generator. I would say depending on your mileage that you might have bad brushes on it. This can happen if you have driven with a battery that is bad; one that requires too much current or voltage to pass. This causes arcing and burns out the brushes. This is just a guess, as regular cars have this problem, and I am new to Prius's.

I've heard similar grinding noise from that quadrant when the brake is worn. Sorry to suggest an obvious answer, but if you haven't considered it...
