Transmission is having trouble shifting gears. What could it be?
My car is a 2005 Ford Taurus. It has 88541 miles
on it. It is having trouble shifting gears, but it
mostly has more trouble shifting from 3rd to 4th.
Once it gets past those gears it drives lime normal.
I don't know if my transmission is done for or if it
could be something else. We changed the
transmission fluid about a month ago because it
was doing that in 1St and 2ND but now it's having
trouble in the 3rd and 4th gear. I don't know if I
should sell it and not even bother with it or attempt
to save it.
You'd need to get the car diagnosed by a mechanic or trans shop before making that decision. If after changing the fluid you still have an issue, I would say your replacing some parts, and more than likely replacing or rebuilding the transmission. But that is worst case. That would be in the $2000-3000k range. Your car is worth around $3000 if it was in fine running fine. Selling it with a shifting problem, you will get much less. Do you like the vehicle and the rest of it is fine and no rust issues? Then get it repaired.
