Should I asked them to pull codes or take their word that it needs a new fuel pump?

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus that stopped working. It sat for about 1 and a half years.  A
friend told me it needed a starter. I took it and had a starter put in.  It cranked but did not
start.  Then they said that it needed a fuel pump. Can it be something else.  Should I ask
then to try to pull codes? Lynda

Try turning everything inside the car off, radio, blower, ect now turn the key to the run position not crank. Listen for the whine of the fuel pump, it will only run for about 2-3 seconds. If you don't hear it check the fuse/relay under the hood to see if its good or not. If the fuse/relay is good then the pump is probably shot.

Scanning the engine codes won't tell you if the pump is good or bad.

Agree,with TA77,do as he said,and if you do here the pump,and still want run,from setting for that long,change the pump.
