trying to replace the key ignition with a used unit.

You need to watch that if the key has the chip in it you will need to have the emc reprogramed

What is the matter with the old ignition switch? If it is just a lost key you can bring the title card and your info to a ford dealership and they can cut a key and program the emc for you. They may not even need to reprogran they may have the codes for the chip and do right there
