Just replaced fuel filter for 2004 Taurus LX hoping to correct the intermittent

it doesn't respond to my pushing on the pedal. It is very slow and sputters for 5-10 seconds, and takes awhile to get up to speed around 40 mph. It also seems to struggle to get into 4th. I replaced the fuel filter this morning. I am trying to run out the gas and then get a full tank with a treatment (sea foam or Lucas.

Check you camshaft position sensor, see if any teeth are worn off the gear, make sure you mark it well when you pull it.
