I'm replacing the oil pan gasket on a 2002 Ford Taurus and thought with the miles the car has and while I had the pan off I'd replace the oil pump. The new pump did not come with the intermediate rod and with effort was able to remove the rod from my old pump. But, it will not lock in place on the new pump and I want to make sure it doesn't have to lock in place.

Never mind, I wasn't pushing it hard enough to seat it all the way (had to tap it a bit). It does click and stay in place. Thanks anyway.
