Need Advice About Wiring Issues With 2002 Focus

My 2002 Focus has been a great car, exhibiting none of the dashboard wiring failures other owners reported, thank heavens. But lately I'm seeing odd wiring failures. Vehicle currently has 162,000 miles. At about 160,000 the door ajar light started coming on when I braked, at first intermittently, then steadily. A few weeks later that stopped and the door ajar light now comes on steady but only when I turn the lights on. Other dashboard warning lights are normal and have shown no problems. Occasionally the check engine light comes on but is intermittent. The trunk unlock function on the keybob  failed about a year ago due to lots of use from carrying tools and supplies in the trunk, however the lock still responds to manual unlocking. Then this weekend the front passenger's door failed to unlock with the keyfob or manually with a key from outside or the handle inside the vehicle. It's shut tight, won't reset. This makes it really inconvenient for the family plus I'm anxious about the next failure. I'm currently looking around for another vehicle because it is time, however this car is fully paid for, runs reliably, has been well maintained, and the body is in good shape, so I'm debating if it is worth the repair cost to fix these wiring issues so I could keep it as a beater. I would appreciate some advice on how complicated/expensive it is to chase down the writing issues. Is it something an amateur could attempt or is it best left to a professional? Are there any checks or tests you suggest to help isolate the short?  If anyone has advice on how to open that locked door I sure would appreciate it. What do you think I should do? Fix, sell, or total?
