Battery or alternator or something else?

I had the same issue on an Ford Truck I used to have. It was the instrument cluster that failed. I took it to a local speedo shop and they were able to repair the problem. I remember them telling me back then that if it wasn't the cluster it was PCM related so I felt pretty releived they were able to fix if for around $120

Would a failed instrument cluster really cause the whole electrical system to fail like that though?

Yeah, at least everything in the dash area. The car kept running didn't it?

Yeah, for the most part. Not being able to go faster than 15 mph was confusing. I probably could have gone faster, but it probably would have failed all together then. And now it barely starts. I just checked it though and it looks like the battery is leaking and it has a burn mark :( I'm not ready to have a battery blow up today.

Milotheblue what was the problem cause my car is doing that now and we have the same car. I just brought an alternator and battery and soon as I did that the problem you had occurred so can you please help me out

I never found out the problem. I ended up going through two mechanics, three batteries and two alternators. Still, it kept happening. I ended up having to scrap the car. Honestly, I'd find someone who's really good at diagnosing these things, the electrical system can be a pain.

New battery and alternator. Now car battery drains all the time. Codes say voltage too high and voltage too low. Any suggestions?

Dash lights come on for about 1-4 minutes when driving. Had the battery and alternator replaced, this did not happen until battery and alternator were replaced. After dash board lights go off, car drives just fine. Do you know what could be causing this?

Any body find out the answer?

I have a 2007 Ford 500 and my car is acting the same. Had the alternator replaced and since then, 2 more alternators and at least 3-4 batteries as well. I've spent 2000-3000 dollars taking it to at least 15 different mechanics with the same end result every time. My battery draining after a few days and the battery light coming on and car wont start up. With me not having the luxury of buying another car I figured out a long-term solution to this problem. I went and made sure I had a new or charged battery and a good alternator first. Then, all I started doing was I would unhook the battery cable from the battery everytime I would get home to assure my battery wasnt somehow getting drained. In the morning I would just slide the cable back onto the battery making sure its on there good and I havent had any problems with this ever happening again. I cant believe just unhooking my battery everytime I got out of my car and just hooking it back up when I would want to go somewhere again would fix this problem. Before this I even had my battery cables, posts, hook-ups and anything else changed to make sure the problem wasnt a connection problem. For some reason though, unhooking the battery everytime I got out of my car and then hooking it back up fixed it long term for me. I hate doing this everytime I go somewhere, but it really does work. Hopefully one day I can pin point an exact location or problem with it. I have drove myself crazy trying to figure it out. All of the time and money I have wasted and spent on trying to fix it or find out what it is, I deserve to one day finally know what it actually is. Hope this helps because I'm still driving my car like that as we speak and I have never had an issue with my battery draining or being dead or my car not starting or only wanting to go 15 mph with all the lights and dash completely out.
