Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 ford 500 and recently had to replace my
alternator and battery. After all was put back together car
ran until "check charging system" light came on and all my
electrical shut off as I was driving. Car still ran but got
sluggish and I parked it. I checked the alternator, fuses,
wires and even got code P0622. It was suggested I replace
the PCM. Before I replace the PCM any other suggestions?

The same thing happened to me! My mechanic just told me the problem was my AC Compressor.. We put in a new battery then a week later my steering wheel locked up and a rude light "check charging sysyem" lit up. My car was still running but I noticed a few days prior that my car would shut off when I turned my heat on using "Auto" so after playing with it I noticed it was only when the AC button was on and that comes on with "Auto". My husband did see that my serpentine belt was broke so we figured that was the cause of the problem so my jaw hit the ground when my $120 repair turned into a $945 repair!

I have the same problem and my mechanic ran codes for the alternator. The codes are saying that the computer is telling the alternator to over work the battery. So I'll have to replace the Electric Control Unit ECU, and that should stop the issue from continuing.

2005 Ford 500, same mo, 3 wire connector from alternator to plug connector (C139 in Haynes manual) male power out side 2 yellow wires(yellow, yellow green stripe, 1 white w/ black stripe. Yellows were dry rot broken completely. They go to the PCM ....I spliced ( no way get solder gun in that area, I did work under the car) Batt light went off, 13-14v to battery and other stuff started working better too. No lag, lights bright... I’m damn happy. Getting to the Alternator wires 6” in is pure hell for this senior.... jeeeesh.

If it's a reman alternator, that's the issue. Has to be a new one. Even an off the shelf from local parts store. There is something weird with a remanufactored alternator that the computer doesn't like. I had that issue. Happened 2 tines, over 14 hears and 350k miles....NEW solved immediately!

True. But, the issue with having diagnosed is a diagnosis comes out wrong. It says bad alt or bad PCM which is completely inaccurate. You can put 3 alternators in there and if they remans, it still gonna come back as a code even though it isn't. So I have found that by getting a straight new alt you don't have this issue and the computer can actually read it as good and you're good to go.
