2003 Ford Explorer Xls

So my ford has the 4.0 v6 and a manual transmission. On
my way home from work I noticed my truck did not seem
as responsive as normal. As i was driving it keep getting
harder and hard to stay at 65 having to push the pedal
down alot father than normal to keep speed and average
RPM sitting at 3500 to 4000 when noramlly making thsi trip
its sits at 2500 in fifth gear. It also started smelling like hot
clutch so i stopping trying to push itand just make it home.
When i made it to my drive way it became extremely
slugish to respond to the gas pedal and sitting at 3500 rpm
again just to drive at 15 mph in first. Also it didnt seem like
engaging the clutch made any difference it still shifts fine
but if i hold the gas at a steady rpm and puched the clutch
it wouldnt shoot the rpm up like it should when the clutch
disengages while the gas is being pushed.
