Loud Winding Noise

Asked by nicki52731 Feb 11, 2014 at 06:27 PM about the 2006 Ford Explorer XLT V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2006 Ford Explorer with a loud winding noise which becomes louder with speed.  I
just put on four new tires because I thought the tires were causing the noise.  I have a
hard time telling whether the noise is coming from the front or the back of the vehicle, but I
do think it's on the left side.  This vehicle has over 250,000 miles on it.  Any ideas?

I would check or have the half shaft or wheel bearing checked....hth

I had a noise coming from the rear right wheel. Took a long time before anyone else could hear it, too. It wasn't until someone riding in the back seat told me they could feel a 'wobble'. I told this to my mechanic and the wheel was very loose. He replaced the wheel bearing and the noise is gone.
