My 02 Explorer engine stops

Asked by kiwiford Jul 22, 2014 at 03:49 AM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 V8 Explorer stops sometimes after 5 or so minutes. Shoot some engine starter into the air filter and away it goes with no more problems for a few days, then it does it again. Fuel regulator, pump or ?

Is your CEL light on? There's about 10 different things off the top of my head that it could be.

Hello - thanks for helping. Not sure what CEL light is - do you mean the engine warning light? As the motor stops all the lights come on and when it starts they all go off. It always does this when it hasn't been riven for a day or so - don't know if that affects it?. Initially it would always instantly restart but now it may take 15 or 20 minutes - maybe it is cooling down? I carry a jump starter pack now and have been trying to sort it out by process of elimination - engine start gets it going but yesterday was the first time I had used it and it had been stopped for 20 minutes.

Take it to AutoZone or some other national auto parts place and ask them to read the trouble codes for you. It's a free service. CEL is the engine light. C check E engine L light
