Frozen Windows or Frozen Switch??

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT. Recently the temps dipped below zero and I wasn't able to roll any of the windows down. Now that it's a little warmer, my windows still won't go down. It was in the garage when the snow fell, so no ice accumulated on the windows or doors at all. I've tried all the door switches and none of them will roll a window down. It sounds like they're starting to roll down, but they don't. Someone suggested the switches are frozen, but with the temps in the high 20s??

Sounds like the cold may have damaged the battery. Will the windows go up and down with the motor running?

The battery was new in February ... the windows would not go up or down with the motor running. However, last night on my way home from work, after a slight warm up in the weather, the driver's side rolled down. It's even warmer today so I'll try the others on the way home. I hope it isn't the battery!

sounds like a combo of cold and weak motors... I have the same problem with 2 windows also. changed 1 already and works perfect still. but 2 are going slow and when its cold they wont come down til its warm. hope this helps

Thank you, jjmtuttle. Today, with the temps in the high 40s, they all started working again. The weak motor in the cold sounds logical. I laugh ... this is supposed to be an excellent winter vehicle, yet it freezes up (doors and windows both!) like an iceberg in cold weather.

I have a family of 5 so the windows take beating over time... slamming doors are the worst...lol good luck be safe and merry xmas

Most of the time I'm the only one in this vehicle, never been a slammer, and the only ones who use the back windows are the dogs!! Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

they started using cable drive instead of rails around your year and my opinion it was a bad design. lol maybe being used and not using them much is a fine line idk... anyway have a great xmas and new year... be safe
