Asked by SteelBeal89 Dec 15, 2015 at 08:24 AM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just replaced the engine, I got abrand new starter, battery, and a 50amp fuse
(for the starter). There is a check engine light on. Also when I turn the key to try
and start it nothing happens but, I can hear a ticking sound under the dash
near the fire wall.
Please help me if you have any information. I have not been able to work for
3 weekss now, I am a 26 yr old single and *only* parent of little boy a man
could dream of. He turns six the day before valintines day and this could very
easily put me out of business. It's a new vehicle to me. I got it for a good deal
or what I thought was a good deal and it threw a rod through the block after
driving it 60miles. I have spent $2,700 trying to get this truck back on the road
sonI can get back to work (I have property maintenance and irrigation
business) and I'm now completely broke. With such short time before
Christmas I want to be able to buy my son the presents he has worked so hard
for being in his circumstances. I'm so blessed to have him and with out his
mother in his life, this past month has been one of the hardest times of my life.
Sorry for rambling on I'm just so mentally drained and overwhelmed its hard
for me to keep myself together. Everyone has told me what doesn't kill you
makes you stronger.... Maybe so I just want to not lose my business  and give
my sone the Christmas that I grew up with as a child. This could not of
happened at a worse time.
Thank you for reading this. If you have any information that could possibly help
me please let me know. My name is Joe feel free to E-mail me
aplusgreenscape@gmail.com or even call 850-259-3032.
God Bless and happy holidays.

You can swap it out temporary with one of the other ones that looks like it to check it,if it is not the issue may not hurt to check the relay.

A ticking noise is usually a sign of a bad solenoid relay on fords or a low battery condition. Check all your electrical connections including grounds for proper contact. Also, sometimes starters are bad right out of the box. If you cannot locate a bad connection, remove the starter and have it bench tested where you purchased it.
