2002 Ford Explorer. What causes my brakes to do this?

Every time I crank the truck and begin moving forward, the brakes don't work properly for the first 10-30 seconds.  I press them and they feel like they are jumping and don't stop the vehicle properly, they make a grinding type noise.  However, after that they begin working properly and don't give me further trouble until I turn it off and crank it again.

I believe the brake booster is malfunctioning...has an obstruction or kink in the vacuum source or has fallen off....does it make "air" sounds?

should get a abs light to kick on soon... sometimes it takes a little bit though. it there snow where you live that would help a week sensor go out with all the sliding is when abs kicks in. hope this helps

Thanks for the help. Regarding the brake booster, would it begin working properly after that first 10 - 30 seconds or would it be continuous? I don't really hear any air noise but that doesn't mean it's not there.
