I am considering buying a 2002 Ford Explorer with 220 000 km on it for 3300. How much longer will the engine last?

The vehicle has recently had these things worked on ..

new brakes on the front and new pads on the rear
-complete struts all the way around replaced
-alignment was also done
-spark plugs/belt/oil change
-front and rear differential and transfer case fluids changed
-has hids headlights hi and low bulbs

it also has a 4.6 v8 engine and 4wd

You can never know for sure. The engine could go another 80-100K km if it is well maintained. A friend of mine had a Mercury Mountaineer with over 200,000 Miles (320,000 km).

As Gary said, the engine depends on maintenance. What you did not mention is what concerns me. Has the transmission fluid and filter been serviced? Ford recommends service every 90K which I think is BS. Suspect the tranny has not been service for two Ford recommended changes, and ask.
