Temporary noise when turning left or right

Asked by Bulldogpres1 Jan 25, 2015 at 08:07 AM about the 2006 Ford Expedition XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After starting engine hear noise when turning left or right. No noise after accelerating and
driving or turning during drive. Thought it might be associated with front 4wheel drive.
Inspection dismissed this.  What could be another problem at 105,000 miles?

Fords are notorious for loud power steering pumps, but first check your power steering reservoir after driving, make sure fluid is dark red, not brown, or having lots of bubbles. Remember it is hard on power steering to turn wheel all the way (full lock), and hold for more than 5 seconds.

Where was the noise coming from? Was it coming from back passenger side?
