I have a 2004 4.6 v8  the vehicle runs great until its under stain like driving up a hill and
trying to maintain highway speed . accompanied with the grinding noise you can feel a
slight lurching until the grinding stops. you don't notice it when starting from a stop, and
when sitting still in park revving the engine will not produce it

Do you have the correct size tires on the vehicle? ...these are known to have Transfer case issues if any of the tires don't match exactly, and this could cause noises similar to grinding in some cases.

I recently purchased the vehicle from my son in law he had the problem and they're mechanic changed the lt front hub and bearing
