what year transmissions are compatible with 2004 Ford Expedition?

my mechanic took a tranny from a 2002 Ford Expedition and
installed it in my 2004 Ford Expedition. Are these compatible and
if so why doesn't it work in mine.

Probably different model transmissions and the electronics can't operate the old transmission.
