Reverse works, but no drive unless I rev the engine.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The truck will go in reverse fine, but at every stop
the transmission acts like it's in neutral. I have to
rev the engine to get it to go into gear, it slams into
first. (2500-3000 rpms) And it goes through all the
rest of the gears fine. Until i stop at a light,
intersection etc.  then the process restarts. Put new
filter and fluid and still same issue. a couple of
times it stalled when trying to engage into 1st from
a stop.

yes, i furthered out, needs new trans, got it towed for cash because it’s a piece of junk. Cruisin in a ‘01 explorer 4x4 on 35’s v6 better gas milage and plenty of room for my wife and 2yr old. problem solved. $3500 to have a trans put in by a mechanic or about $1500 for a new trans by its self new or about 600- 900 for a used one. Paid 1500 for the explorer and half the miles my expy had.
