2003 Ford Expedition air only comes out of defrost vents on all settings

Asked by Guru9YFS8 Jun 12, 2017 at 03:55 PM about the 2003 Ford Expedition XLT

Question type: General

I am not getting any air coming out of my front
vents. On all settings it only comes out of the
defrost vent. Front vents don't blow any air out. I
checked vacuum hoses and found one unplugged
going to a valve that goes to the canister behind
the battery. Replaced a small curve hose that was
cracked going to another valve near the Egr valve.
Most of the hose were wrapped in that plastic
conduit. Took out tha battery and checked but
didn't see anything out of the ordinary. From
reading alot of post it doesn't seem like it's the
front blend actuator( cause I don't hear any
clicking). I have manual controls and at all settings
it only blows out the defrost vents. I'm so puzzled
now and need help to resolve this. Could it be a
fuse, relay, or could I be overlooking what could be
a hose under the conduit? Any help will be very
much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

The vent blender module is defective. Accessible behind the glove compartment.

As Maxwell Smart would say " ah, yes Chief, the proverbial no air out of the vent trick." Open glove compartment, release tabs that hold door from dropping down. Get flashlight, look in the compartment to the left, you will see a small motor looking thing with a plastic arm attached to a metal rod. That accuator moves the settings from vent to floor to defrost, it swings a deflector plate inside the blower assembly to direct the air where you want it. Previous owner paid over $250.00 to have the cheap plastic arm break again. I marked with whiteout "summer" for direct vents through the dash and "winter" to bend dash and defrost. I have to manually move the arm up or down while testing where the air flow comes from. Check YouTube for videos onhow to patch it. Same mucho dollars and open the glove box up 2 times a year and move it manually to the settings you want .
