2003 ford expedition will not start only clicks

Asked by Joyce Apr 18, 2019 at 12:16 PM about the 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car was running fine a few days ago. Went to turn
into driveway and car died out...would crank like it
wanted to start but not start. Said "hi temp, low oil"
oil level was good but I added 1 qt. Tried jumping
still crank no start. Got it towed home and driver
said batter too weak to put in neutral (that was fun
trying to get in garage). Now 2 days later I am only
getting a rapid click on first attempt and now just a
click from the passenger side hood area.
I have replaced the starter about two months ago
and the battery post. I'm at a lost with no funds to
take to a mechanic at the moment. PLEASE HELP!
IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS.
Oh and once jumped will allow to move gears and
steering wheel while getting jumped but as soon
as taken off it shuts down and locks back up. No
movement of gears or steering.

I'm NO mechanic by ANY means but that happened to me, lights went crazy though and it was my alternator! Sounds like the EXACT same thing. This would also cause your car to die as soon as cables are removed after jumping

Thank you for that. And yes it did go through my lights and stereo rapidly on off and acting funny when initially trying to jump.
