Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Escape often fails to disengage from park.  A friend who is a mechanic looked at it and advised me to replace the interlock solenoid.  He said t it was not the brake switch.  Could there be anything else that might be causing this intermittent problem? How about the electrical source to the solenoid? Is the interlock solenoid a common problem in Escapes?  Can I swap the solenoid or should it be left to a mechanic? The Ford dealer will only replace the actuator and not the solenoid alone.  Please advise ...
