Battery and alternator want stay charged

What will have my 1997 crown Vic going
dead I've put a new battery and alternator
but I still have to jump it off but soon as I
take the cable off it runs for about 3 minutes
and goes dead and when I try and crank it
without da cables it will not turnover

I think you have a serious short , search "parasitic battery drain" get a multi tester and go from there , a bad alternator will throw a light on the dash board
