2005 Chevy trailblazer oil pressure drops while driving

while driving to work my check engine light came on and my oil pressure gage dropped a bit. I checked oil level and was a little low so I added some oil. while I drove home the light stays on and my pressure starts to drop.what can be the root causes for this?

A worn engine is a possibility but I would change the oil and filter and also the oil pressure sender before worrying about the engine.
