93 Ford Explorer lift gate

I have a QUSETION on my 93 Ford
Explorer the lift gate wasn't adjusted right
so I tried to readjust by taking the 2 bolt off
the lift gate hinge and put it back together
but now the bottom of my hatch latches
but the top is like 1 1/2inches away from
the roof I would I fix this problem would it
be the hinges?

its possible the hatch door itself has been bent, this happens quite often

Hatch, hinges, or mounting location probably bent. I've seen it happen. Hatch up. Someone backs up and strikes a garage door or something and it bends slightly. In all probability the bottom portion of the hatch is bent inward. Suggestion. Position the hinges at the top so when it closes there is the appropriate space when closed. Now check the strikers and determine how far off they are. It is possible the strikers are adjustable inward and outward.

The hatch don't look bent. Also I'm a small person trying To hold hatch up by myself and I couldn't so I let it down slowly and it was hanging on one hinge
