Weird oil pressure

On startup oil pressure comes right up to 38 to 40 psi. If you rev the engine a little I notice the gauge  will not move or may even drop slightly to 33 to 35 psi. After the truck comes up to normal operating temp (a mile or two down the road)the gauge/pressure works as you think it should. 35 to 40 psi at idle and goes up to 60 psi when revving the engine. Truck has high miles (220000) so I'm very aware of the oil pressure. Runs great, no ticks, knocks or anything. Great power still. Thanks.

Actually oil will not reach full operating temperature for approximately 10 to 15 miles (depending on how hard the engine is working). Coolant will be up to normal temperature in a mile or 2. If it were mine I would replace the oil pressure sensor to see if it fixes the problem.

Bob is right. Funky oil pressure readings can be a soggy oil pressure sender.
