why does my check engine light come on in my 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD PU after driving long distances

it seems as though after driving long distances that the check engine light comes on.  however, not
when i'm doing short trips just around town.  I would occasionally like to take the truck about a 4 hour,
round trip, but am not sure if it's safe or not.  No one can seem to figure this out.

Without knowing what codes are present, there isn't much advice to give. Get the codes read.
