Oil Pressure

Asked by MkamShannon2016 Jan 12, 2017 at 03:41 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LS Extended Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 Silverado 2500 LS 6.0L. I was
driving down the road and oil pressure
went to 0. I  immediately pulled over and
the truck started making loud noise. Lifter
noise(loudest on passenger side closest to
the firewall)knocking noise.(goes away if
you increase rpms) checked for leaks etc.
and nothing was leaking. I had a buddy
bring me a oil sending unit. Replaced it
and nothing changed(there was no "2inch"
screen in sensor hole). Towed it home
changed oil(always mobile 1 high mileage
FS) and oil filter(K&N) same thing. Any
suggestions before I break this engine
down?

Start by checking the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. If the pressure is showing low, I would drop the oil pan and look to see what kind of crap is in there to determine weather or not to put in a new High Volume Oil Pump. You would want to check the compression of the engine also, pull the valve covers off and look for any damage, sludge and crap again. You just have to determine the condition of the engine in making a decision on what you want to do. A new High Volume Oil Pump would get you a few more miles out of her if it is worth it.
