Oil pressure sending unit replacement and symptoms.

Vehicle has about 112,000 miles,smelled oil,lifted hood didn't see
anything.Continued driving another 40 miles and the pressure gauge on dash
crept up beyond the peg mark.Got home and checked the oil and looks full
and fine.Does the sensor leak when it goes out,along with the gauge?

Not sure if it was 2005 or 2006 Chevy engines they started putting a fine screen basket under the oil sending unit. Remove the oil sending unit and fish out that screen and clean. Put it back in and replace the oil sending unit with a new one since you are there. The screen gets plugged up and needs to be cleaned.
The "smelling oil" part of this equation concerns me. Take a good close look at the underside of your truck to see if there is any evidence of an oil leak. If you smelled oil or burning oil there has to be a leak somewhere. If the pressure gauge being pegged was an accurate reading there may be an issue with the oil pump. Excessive oil pressure can cause the oil filter to leak or blow apart. Other than the oil smell I agree with what Rowefast posted.
My 2010 Silverado oil pressure reading. Please try this simple fix. Install an AC Delco PF64 oil filter! My 2010 Silverado oil pressure was reading around zero. I tried a few things & then I tried the above mentioned filter and Wala! My problem is solved for about $6 ! Many of you do not need the pressure sensors them oil pumps and all the other expensive stuff mention in these ride ups. Just tried this oil filter first. I’m sure it will solve the problem for some of you. Good luck
