Does the vehicle start and drive OK? How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Around here, some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. Check the exhaust for leaks, maybe the exhaust is trying to clog-up, for some reason. Maybe you need a new muffler? At the moment, I don't know if the exhaust sound means an engine issue? Fuel--spark--compression?
