srevice light came 7 day after I bought the truck

I bought a 2001 Silverado 1500 , 163,000 miles 7 day later service light comes on
so I take to advanced auto kid tell me intake leak, both banks get too much air. Asked
him clear code he said he couldn't. company BS I guess. The next day went to o-railys
they ran the code it came back as P0171. We looked it up it said 1 bank is running lean and gave a 10 item list of possible fixes. Where do I start. I really don't believe I have an intake leak the motor runs smooth.

Unmetered air getting in to intake. Failed MAF-- Mass Air Flow sensor, which is more of a meter than a sensor or any of the possible causes listed, go to this page, read the entire page. It might be running a bit hot, lean running will cause that. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0171
https://www.manualowl.com/am/Chevrolet/2001-Silverado%201500%20Pickup/Manual/344 Chapter 2 Page 93 shows "Service" Engine which is the sam e as CEL. Some vehicles that means get an oil change..but your Silverado it's, like I say the same as CEL. If built in Canada, it has a engine icon..Because it's illegal in Canada to not write everything in English and French both, so they use a wordless icon /symbol (I'm serious)
You didn't throw a P0174 so that reduces the likely-hood of failed MAF. Suggestions: Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Should read 62 psi +/- 5. Check PCV hose(s) and valve. Look at all vacuum hoses for cracks or one unattached, with no 'home'

Okay. That's what I meant fuzz.. not an oil change reminder, so back to the P0171. I don't want to put-down anybody, plenty of auto-parts clerks know a LOT and can be trusted. But there are some, especially the young guys (and women) that want to impress and say things they don't know anything about. Just like salespeople, they know surprisingly little about the cars they sell, but won't let you on to that.
