wont shift into drive

i have 99 chevy silvarado it shifts in reverse and nuetral but will not go down far
enough to shift into drive is there a cable to transmition  or sensor in steering
colume???

Probably a cable or linkage is not lining up right or has slack in it, sometimes worn engine/tranny mounts can cause things to misalign for shift linkage.
