Car stalling issue

Asked by May 15, 2018 at 08:42 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My chevy monte carlo has been randomly stalling
the past month. At first at cold starts and then it
would run fine... Then while I was driving at 40
- 45mph. I was able to get it started by gassing  it
getting the rpms up. And it would run. Then one
morning 2 weeks ago it wouldn't start at all, soon
the engine turns it dies. I would press the gas and
engine would run but when I let off and rpms fall
under 1k it dies. My obd2 scanner found no codes
( the cheap one from Amazon that Bluetooth to cell
phone). Had the car towed to mechanic. They
couldn't find anything. Had car a whole week. Says
they ran it for three days got it to stall once and
never again. Says they got a MAF code, P1001....
So today I'm driving my car it stalls mid driving...
Won't start. I park it, press accelerator, rpms are
over 3k engine runs a little (not long enough to
change gears to drive) the dies.... After Maybe a
full minute it would run at all. Just turn, sputter and
die. I remove the MAF and it runs again, I make it
home try plugging in the MAF and it runs fine...
Given the scenerio what do you think it could be?
