Sounds like you need to reprogram your key

If you did not disconnect the negative (-) battery cable before you started working under the dash you may have blown a fuse. If not, try a known working spare key. If you don't have a spare key best to be towed to your local Chevy Dealer for repair. Also, before someone else says it, the 10 minute relearn procedure won't work in your situation. HTH. -Jim

He could try the 30 minute at home and if that doesn't work take it to the shop.
