Asked by Debi Jun 01, 2017 at 09:33 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Chevy Van G1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Started van, let run for 5 min. .put in
reverse and accelerated when all of a
sudden check gages lite came on and
oil started spewing out under the van .
Immediately shut off van. Oil continued
to flow out as if someone pulled the
plug and was draining it. What are

possible that plug did fall out, or was installed incorrectly, or the filter was not tightened properly. Have you looked under it? I'm curious why you are letting it run 5 minutes before driving...that tells me you have had problems, which you did not mention. If you want help, you need to give a lot more info...

Take a good look around and find it, it may be a oil cooler line and a simple fix.

Confirm the level of the oil in oil pan, do not crank it up. May not be engine oil, if you have dark ATF it may of up-chuked due to overheating threw the vent on top of trans case.
