1994 4x4 Ford explorer

Just bought the vehicle and tried the 4
wheel drive and it didn't work, but every
since then it won't go in drive. Any idea
what's wrong with it and why it won't go in
drive? It will run in 2nd.

The transfer case and transmission are two separate issues. I would check the trans fluid level and also the shift linkage but you might have bought a car with a bad trans and transfer case.
